Yep I used to have 5, now down to 2.  They are boring little critters and I won't be replacing them, lol.  I mean, I surely take good care of them and even spent about $75 on a sick one getting him a q tank with all new supplies in it, extra heat, new shells, etc (he died anyhow - I think he got in a shell fight and he was nekked for many days).  But overall I am not terribly fond of them and once they are gone I'll not be getting more.

I know what ya mean. They are boring and don't move around all that much. They are expensive at first to. I spend $100 at least on their tank, food, heater, hideouts, and climbing toys. The crabs themselves weren't that bad. What do you feed them? Your tank or crabitat looks so much cooler than mine. These are my 1st and probably last (sad to say) They live (seems like) forever.

These were my first as well - I bought 5 when I started out.

I feed them whatever food they have at the Petstore, and occasionally some soft people food like cooked carrots or cooked yams.  But mainly the powdery commercial foods.

I dunno what I'll do when I get down to only one, cause I know they like to have company. Maybe find someone on Craigslist that might want another one.

My stepdaughter wants crabs....  I'm not convinced, guess who gets to take care of any we get?  Btw... I posted in the crab section asking questions about keeping them if you all care to mosey over there and fill me in...

I used to keep them also,  I had fun with mine.  My daughter once lost one of hers and it was months until we found it in her room.  He was still alive to our surprise.

trying to post a pic not too good at this first it tells me pic too big then it says i've already submitted this grrrrr
I have hermit crabs.  Febuary 3rd will be 3 years I've had my original 2, and I have about 6 or 7 total.  The oldest being kept by 1 person is 34 years, she got them in 1976.  If anyone is interested in a great site/forum for hermits check out crab street journal.  They can actually be very energetic and entertaining, but everything for them has to be almost exact to what they need, to thrive they can really need perfect environment.  They will last awhile with ok environment but won't be active.  there temp needs to be 76-80 with a warm side and a cool side, and the humidity for them needs to be 80.  I actually have never really bought much for them from a petstore as everything labeled for hermits are just money makers.  The commercial food, over time can be lethal, they have preservatives, even though they are called hermit crabs they are part of the arachnid family, making pesticides and preservatives deadly.  They are definetly not for everyone, but can also be quite addicting.  they also have an adoption area, they ask alot of questions lol but they do get homes that really really take care of these guys.
