Dang it all to heck
« on: December 09, 2009, 06:29:59 PM »
OK that's not really what I wanna say, but anyhow.........

I just sucked my new baby girl up into my gravel vac!  She didn't get to the part where the big tube meets the airline tube, but still.  I had this happen once before with a girl and she developed dropsy within a few days of it happening :(  Phooey.

I tried to be so careful too!  But as soon as I started the suction up she went!  I never have these problems with the boys - they see the siphon and get the heck outta dodge.  Why do the girls have to be so nosey?  In her defense it was her first water change so she didn't know what was going on.  I've only had her a week and when I changed out some stuff in her tank over the weekend I took her out.

Anyhow she seems fine, but I figure that kind of pressure can't be good for her, and after my last experience I'm gonna be worried for weeks.  Keep little Violet in your thoughts ya'll.  $^#@(&%$&$)*@%$_%)#&!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad she's fine. I've done that also with oher fish & especially fry but yah betta girls are to nosy for their own good. lol Luckily none were worse for the wear.

If you're paranoid, use some netting or pantyhose to cover the tip & secure with a rubberband. Of course by doing that you won't be able to plunge the vac into the gravel.

Ever notice in the Bible, whenever God needed to punish someone, make an example or needed a killing, he sent an angel? Ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? An existence spent praising your God, but always with 1 wing dipped in blood. Would you really want to see an angel?

I may try that.  This is the little tank with the UGF so right now I'm not disturbing the gravel while the tank matures a bit.

I hope she'll be alright.  My other girl seemed fine too afterwards but then she started pineconing a few days later.  But she got sucked all the way up to where the vac tube meets the smaller tube :(

Ug.. That's never good.  I've actually sucked baby Endlers all the way through and found them in my water bucket later, I also search that bucket for baby shrimp ::)  There's always a few of those.  I also had a Dwarf Puffer get caught up in the big tube, turned my back just a minute!  He didn't make it to the smaller tube either and he was fine...  hope it turns out the same way for you and Violet.

Oh dear - poor little girl!

I stopped using the "vacuum" even when I had gravel - since I was changing, not cycling - and now that I'm not using gravel, I'm just using plain tube and gravity - but the little brat still comes too close for peace of mind at times.

Vibes, crossed - err - fins, etc. (usually I saw crossed paws, but I'm not sure if that would work here!).
