Benefit of Mail Order Aquarium Fish Supplies
« on: December 09, 2009, 10:05:45 AM »
Fish can lighten up your home as they lazily sail nearly in their tank without a care in the world. You may even feel emphasize melt away you watch them do their thing. What do you look for when you look for pet supplies? For best results get everything set up at least a day before bringing any fish home. Fish are very individual about their environments, and this will give the tank time to stabilize and get to a good temperature for your fish.

When choosing a fish tank you need to think about what type of fish you'll have in it. Get a manageable size so you can change the water frequently, and even occasionally fully clean it. You also want a tank that is big enough for the fish. Fish need room to move around, and some require more than others, so get one that allows plentifulness of breathing room. A basic fish bowl is good for goldfish or a beta, since they don't take up much room or need a water pump.

Gravel isn't always necessary, but some fish are bottom feeders and eat food off the sand at the bottom of their natural habitat, so they would need gravel. The gravel also keeps the bottom from looking too gross and helps hide some of the fish food and fish "waste" between cleanings. The people where you get your pet supplies should be able to tell you what you'll need.

Fish need a specific temperature range to thrive, and it's considerable that you sustain it within that range for them. It makes mind to authorize in a thermometer so you can keep conditions ideal for them. You can feel styles that stick to the side of the tank, or hang or glide in the water. One of the finest ways to direct temperature is to empower in a heater. If you have a fish tank instead of a fish bowl, you'll need a water filter. Keeping the fish water clear is going to give your fish's life. In smaller systems the water pump and filter will arise together. The water pump circulates the water though the filter adding air bubbles which keeps the water aerated and prevents water stagnation.

You can buy water at the store or just use tap water. If you use tap water you'll need to either buy a substance that eliminates the chlorine, or let a few gallons of water sit out for several days. This lets the chlorine evaporate. If you're working with delicate fish then abstain from tap water or get the chemicals. Don't forget to make sure your water is ready before you bring your fish home and become accustomed to the fish before letting them free in their new tank.

Different fish need different kinds of food. Feeding your fish the inaccurate food could be fatal. Read up on what your particular fish like to eat and then read the containers so you know you're getting the right kind.

At some point you will need a fish net. Sometimes you have to take away your fish to clean the tank, and sadly sometimes you need to erase a fish that has passed away. You could get a fish net after you've had the fish for a while, but since you're already getting pet supplies you might as well get the net too.

For such tiny creatures, aquarium fish require lots of supplies, most of which are worth many times more than the actual fish. If you have a rare pet fish or keep saltwater fish, you may have real trouble trying to exist what you need at your local pet shop. You can turn to aquarium-supply mail-order specialty companies to help your wet pets thrive.

Mail Order Aquarium Fish Supplies

Benefits

1. Many mail-order fish-supply companies have employees who also keep fish, and can answer consumers' questions. These companies often offer free shipping if you buy a confident amount of merchandise. They attend to have a far greater choosing than any real store, and often have contacts to pack special orders for supplies--or even specific species or hybrids of fish.

Types
2. Mail-order fish-supply companies are of two basic types. The first is based in an actual bricks-and-mortar shop; the mail-order business is just added office of the store. (That Fish Place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is just such a shop.) The other type of throng works strictly via mail order. They send out catalogs or put up an e-commerce website where customers can check the merchandise lineup and place an order. Pets Warehouse is such a fellowship. One type isn't necessarily better than the other.

Considerations
3. Mail-order fish-supply companies are a great cleverness for supplies you don't need immediately. This gives the throng ample time to get the merchandise in stock and process and ship your order. Make sure you know the company's return policy before you order. Your first order should be for supplies you don't need right away, so that you can test how fixedly and reliable the throng is before committing to using them as a regular supplier.

Theories/Speculation
4. Whether you're buying a filter, a chiller, water-testing kits or decorations, have an idea beforehand of what type or sword of merchandise you need. Don't just buy at random. It's defeat to depart to an actual brick-and-mortar pet store to locate out what brands are available, how big the products are and if they would work in your tank. You can also ask questions of the employees and get direct answers. This way, you'll already know what you are looking for when you flip through a catalog.

Warning
5. It is not recommended to buy actual fish from mail-order companies. The transportation is usually too much of a wonderment for them, and they often arrive at your home dead or dying. However, you can get everything else you need to keep the fish you already have alive and well. Have your tank up and running for 1 month before you add any fish, so the water chemistry is balanced enough to aid them.

Umm, there are some incorrect statements in the above post.  Overall most of it seems accurate, altho opinions will vary on many things.  But below are some things that are just straight up wrong.

"A basic fish bowl is good for goldfish or beta"  - NOT TRUE - especially for a goldfish - no way!

"If you use tap water you'll need to either buy a substance that eliminates the chlorine, or let a few gallons of water sit out for several days." - NOT TRUE - Most cities use chloramines in the water supply, which will NOT be eliminated by letting the water sit out - you MUST have a water conditioner that neutralizes both chlorine and chloramine unnless you are certain of what's in your tapwater.

"It is not recommended to buy actual fish from mail-order companies." - NOT TRUE - many people buy fish online and are very happy with them, and ordering fish online give you choices you would never find at a local fish or pet store.

The person who posted this is obviously using english as a second language. His/her spelling is excellent but his/her grammar and in places, word choice, is very poor.
One thing he neglects to mention and is glaring in it's omission, is the nitrogen cycle. This post originally contained a link to a blog site with ads and similar posts(this one was included verbatim as the current post).
This post appears to have made purely to direct traffic to a site that has a few facts straight, but is wildly incorrect and/or oblivious to facts that anyone who has seriously kept fish would know. This person is dangerous to the hobby. They are passing themselves off as an expert but lack huge amounts of rudimentary knowledge. There is just enough truth in the blog posts to make them believable to someone unfamiliar with the hobby.
Further posts with that link will be deleted outright. You will make no money from ads and traffic here. Your "harmless" scheme to make some easy money is not seen as harmless here.

Setting up a tank and letting it run for 1 month really does nothing... it doesn't eliminate harmful chemicals like chloramine (present in most municipal water supplies these days), and does nothing for getting a cycle started, as Cholly mentioned was also not included in the article.

I came off pretty harsh in that post, I don't usually do that. But you set yourself up as an expert, apparently to make money. There are two major problems with that, the first being the obvious fact to anyone with experience that you are unequivocally are NOT an expert. You miss too many basic facts in fishkeeping. Very basic. Second, is if anyone does believe you, they are going to end up doing things wrong, and killing fish that they care for because they believed you. In your blind chase for lucre, you are causing harm.
Please take down your blog. You may think, "Who cares, it's only fish." We care. And anyone who comes to this site for help cares. If you have a pet, any pet, it generally means you care about that pet.
Normally, we don't encourage re-registering. In your case, if you really want to learn about fishkeeping, and keeping them for years, not weeks, re-register and start fresh. Read the articles, ask questions. 6 months to a year down the line, when you've gotten to know us, and we get to know you, IF you're comfortable with it, let us know you were piranzamate and we'll laugh about it.

Although mail order shops can be a great source for supplies. I personally like being able to go into my lfs and just hangout and talk, it helps my lfs is ran buy the founder of my local aquarium club also a good place to get supllies and fish by the way. Another reason is it is easier to speak with a lfs about problems and they can do water tests and some will even look over your sick fish if you can bring a clear pick or the actual fish if resonably possible.  This is not usually big box pet stores but local mom and pop places.  As far as getting specific specis my lfs will order almost anything I want if they do not carry it. Anyway just my 2 cents.

There are benefits and advantages to both, IMO. Mostly I go local, for similar reasons as yours.
