Tankmates for Sorority.

4 females, 20g, no other tankmates.
I was hoping you guys would know what tankmates would be safe to put in with my 4 female bettas in the 20g.

Some of the smaller corydoras species would work.

Cherry barbs, Cardinal tetras, small loaches, bristleonose plecos . These are ones I know will work, there are more choices.

corys (minimum group of 3, ideal 4 or more of the same breed), almost any type, are usually ok, they stay on the bottom & out of the betta's way.

Tetras, barbs, minnows & similer small fish are usually ok, though I've had trouble with barbs specifically being nippy, and it does depend on the bettas, don't spend lots of money on something expensive till you have a better idea if they'll tolerate other fish or not.

smaller algea eaters & loaches, though again it depends on the bettas

avoid anything with larger flashy fins such as male guppys or goldfish, and I find fish such as angelfish, cichlids & gourami's to nippy or teritorial or out right aggressive.  Either they'll do in the bettas or the bettas will do in them.

I was thinking about getting the tetras, corys or otos, and some barbs, but i don't know how many i should put in.

Four females is only 8 inches of fish, so you could do a small school of dither fish if you wanted. I had about ten neons (the really small ones) in my planted tank with my betta girlies. The neons are too fast for the girls to bother, and although I've heard they can be nippy, I never had any problems with mine. Corydoras are a good choice. My favorites are the leopard spotty ones. They're fun to watch!

well, you've got 8 inches of fish so far, say 3 corys for another 6 inches (give or take, some cories do get bigger though), then depending on how well the tank is filtered & how often you do water changes you can probly get away with a group of 5 or so minnows or neons or the like.  I wouldn't do more than that no matter how well filtered the tank is though.
