Will a counter be good enough? There's a place online that tells you how to make a 55 gallon stand out of wood and screws. If that can hold 600 pounds I assume a counter can.

Counters are not designed to support aquariums, not to mention a very large one. It also depends on what type of counter and the structural integrity of it.  I'm no expert but I personally don't think its a good idea. Buying an already built stand or making one yourself would be the best options.

Just my opinion.

Some will, some won't. Actually most will, but you have to ask yourself, "Do I want to gamble on it?", especially if you lack the experience to make the judgement yourself.
When I build, I try to build for more weight(half again, if not double) than I'm going to have in place. I don't like to gamble anywhere but a casino.

Bichers are highly addictive. Prehistoric looking, full of attitude, what's not to love?
