backsiphon problem
«
on:

My tank has been up in running for while now and its been doing great, my plants are growing awesome and ive lost no fish.
But yesterday my DIY co2 system back siphoned. so here are my questions.
1. Is there anything i need to worry about?
2. Ever since the back-siphon a "hair" looking algae or bacteria has been taking up homestead on the glass. How do i get rid of this
without killing my good bacteria?

The only thing you really need to worry about is the DIY system pushing water, and yeast/sugar mix into the tank. Then things will really get ugly.
What colour is the algae/bacteria thing on the glass? If it's an algae type thing, you can wipe it off. Chemicals are generally a bad idea for algae as they tend to affect the plants, too. Algae are present in all tanks pretty much, it's a matter of how much of it. If it's that awful blue-green algae (aka BGA aka cyanobacteria) there are a couple of options available.

the co2 mixture siphoned back into the tank, my fish are still doing ok, though they are breathing heavy.
and this hair algae has taken over every surface, it has almost engulfed one of my larger plants. the algae
looks white. im not sure its algae but i dont know what else to call it, it didint show up until the co2 mixture got into the tank.

It appears that you got some sugar into your tank which has caused a bacterial bloom. Daily 50% water changes for 3 days will reduce the sugar content from the tank. You will have to wait for the bacterial bloom to disappear.

keep your Co2 container higher than your tank, and you wont have any back siphon problems.

PLus 2 and add check valve if you don't have it.
