Ok so I bought a used 55g tank while over here in Germany and now I have a problem. I ended up gutting the light system because after about a month haveing it the cat destroyed the cord so I couldnt turn on the light so why have it up there? So a friend dug the light system out of the hood and now I have a giant hole on the hood. Makes cleaning easyer BUT I have no light and I didnt want to get one of the clamp on lights I want to replace the whole hood. I dont keep plants so I just want a normal hood with 1 or 2 strips of light. Here's the issue though: if the tank is over 10g over here they do not put a frame on the top of the tank so there is no plastic lip for a regular american hood! I contacted glasscages.com and got a rude reply saying they dont sell 40 X 16 frames. Does anybody have any idea where I could buy one in the size I need or how I can make a frame for my tank? Or maybe I could be pointed in the right diection on how to make a glass cover for the hole?? Something needs to be done the hole is like 38 X 10 and the evaporation is horrible and I'm worryed the fishys will decide jumping will be fun.

I'm havine some trouble visualizing the problem.  A photo would be helpful!

Are there hoods made in Germany that would fit the tank?

There are but its the 220 issue i'm having. I did find a company that will custom cut me a piece of plexi glass to go over the hood so for the most part above problem has been resolved but of course I know nothing about plexiglass so the different options are makeing my brain hurt and I cant seem to find anywhere on the site that explains what they mean about the different tolerence rating or how thick I should get it. Anyone know anything about plexiglass that could answer that?

My experience with plexiglass (acryilic) over tanks hasn't been good.  It tends to sag with the humidity, but I've used pretty thin stuff.  Glass or styrene would be better.
