Im a Fishaholic

« on: November 07, 2009, 07:35:51 PM »

I have 2 5 gallon aquariums and 2 5.5 gallon aquariums that I would like to get heaters for.  I was thinking about the hydor 7.5 watt mini heater or the 15 watt mini heater, but the issue is that the only place in the house that I have room to set up the tanks would be on the 3rd floor which for financial reasons it's not heated during the winter and since I live here in Bloomsburg Pa. it gets a little nippy at times.  My issue is that the heater is not adjustable and I was wondering would the heater keep the water temp warm enough for either a betta or cherry shrimlp.  Thanks.

I have a betta in a 5 gal tank.  I add the mini heater recently since it's turned a little colder.  It increased the water temp from 71 to about 74.  Enough for what I wanted in my heated apartment but not sure if it would keep it warm enough for you.

You need an adjustable heater that will keep the temp at around 78 consistently.

I've used these 25 watt heaters in my 2.5 gallon betta tanks for years with no problems.

Just be sure to unplug it 30 minutes beforehand if it will be exposed to air during water changes, and to let it set in the water for 30 minutes before plugging it back in.

Also I've been able to find them locally at Petsmart and Petco.
