After 6 years of wanting and dreaming for a 55 gallon tank ... I HAVE ONE!!!!

my boyfriends buddy had a turtle that they decided to give to someone that had a pond, so he had this huge tank sitting in his basement for a month. They put it on Craigslist and no one wanted to take it for what they wanted for it. So after I helped Phil move the mustang into our garage he offered his buddies dad $140 for the stand, the tank, two high power pumps and a couple toys.

So all I need to get is a hood and a bag of gravel and Im in business!!! But I'm going to take a couple weeks to look for a hood, so in that time I'll just let the water sit and cycle. I have an aerator blowing in it now to add more oxygen for when I put Mikey in his new home.  thumbs up SO DANG HAPPY!!!

hoods are expensive for 55g tanks over here a glass hood costs 25-38 dollars and a plastic hood cost 80 dollars and a light costs 60 x.x it sucks lol. But im so glad you got your first 55g tank I just got my first one not to long ago and allready want a bigger tank lol, its a never ending process x.x for me once I have something to want the next stage better. Any idea on what type of tank you want to make? plantet, community, brackish water.

He's definitely a cichlid, but I don't remember what kind.

Bichers are highly addictive. Prehistoric looking, full of attitude, what's not to love?

I wanna say he's African. I went to the lfs and they had two, one that was beat up and had been there two weeks, and then another one that was four times mikeys size (and he's 4-5 inches long!) I never knew they could get that big!!

Looked into hoods, and the guy told me to get a glass lid it would run about $30, and for the light another $30 so $60 really isnt that bad for me.

But I felt sorry for the beat up fish and bought him. Hes the same size as Mikey, but uglier lol I called him Steve.

Mikey meeting Steve

poor guy. I think he was a donation. None of his wounds were fresh, I dont even know if the fins can grow back fully. He almost looks like Nemo on one side because his fin is shrivled. I have him in a hospital tank now with some Melafix. I'll see if I cant get those fins back to their origional look, but trying to Mikey to accept him in the 55 wont be easy now.

He's just so darned ugly I love him!! lol

I'm not sure which breed of cichlid they are, I was never told by either petshops I bought them from. But they both have the same markings and colors so they're the same breed. Its just a big ol' mystery at my house lol
