i found one of my old 1g tanks sitting in the back of my "aquarium stuff" storage shed. i used to use it to keep live feeders on hand for my cichlids a long time ago, and completely forgot about it.
since i finished all of my other current DIY projects, i decided to try something crazy with this 1g tank.

the main problem with tanks this small is the filtration. (or lack there of), so i figured i would step it up a little bit....

... ok. maybe more than a little bit.

first things first.
i drilled out the tank, and installed 1/2" bulkhead fittings.

then i ran the rest of the plumbing, and threw together a quick trickle wet/dry filter so i could do a wet test.

since everything was working perfectly, i went to start on the wet/dry sump.
initially i was going to do something much bigger (20-30g wet/dry), but i couldnt find the right shaped container to put behind my couch (thats where the filters going).
instead i went with a simple 5g bucket wet/dry

real simple:

get a bucket

cut some PVC legs

cut an eggcrate tray (to hold up the bio media)

then throw together and add scrubbies

this is where i forgot to take pics:

i cut the bottom off of another bucket, and drilled holes in it to create a round drip tray.
filled the drip tray with mech media (in this case, filter pads and poly fill)
drilled holes in the lid to accomodate wires and tubing
placed the pump in the bottom
ran the wires and tubing
fill with water...

then it was plug and play.

i pulled out the couch so you could see the whole thing, but with the couch back in place, you dont see the bucket or plumbing.

the end.  thumbs up

it was that or pea puffers. still haven't decided.
there's a small GSP in there now. i put it in the tank to test the current. wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be too much for the fish, and oddly enough, even @ 60x turnover, the GSP loves it.

im still on the look out for a tall narrow 20-30gal container, so i can make the filter even bigger.
