Adding a freshwater fish tank to your home can be a great way to add a ornamental focal point that is fun for everyone. And because home aquariums are suitable more and more ordinary there is no inadequacy of fish shops supplying the most recent and greatest tanks, accessories and of course of study fish. The good news is that most of these fish shops are owned by citizen who like to allotment their great ardor for all things fish with their customers.

On the other hand it is more common than not to get bad advice from your local aquarium suppliers. Usually they are hard pressed to sell their wares and will fob you off with things and fish you could/should avoid. It is better to research whatever is on offer.
If I had to live my life again, what would I avoid?

It depends on where you live, Piranzamate.... many cities have the "big box" retailers where most of the times their fish section is stocked with kids that know nothing else than how to catch the fish and bag it up.  I've had to teach them how to tell the difference between a female and male livebearer....  basic guppy, molly, or platy type...I can't tell you HOW many times I've overheard them give BAD and INCORRECT advice to people who know very little about fish.

(That was strange... I went back to look at my post, and the entire thing was in the quote box!

Hopefully I was able to fix it properly.)

from my experience there are "super fish stores" "fish stores" and "core fish stores"

-Super stores stock the basics, and give "decent" advice for complete beginners. Petsmart, petco, etc.
-Fish stores are pretty good about info, but theres always one or two employees who are terrible, so you get burned every once in a while when completely uniformed about something. If you show them you know what you are talking about, they are helpful.
-Core fish stores are run by people who are completely engulfed in fish keeping. Generally these stores are saltwater, and generally, you end up blowing a lot of money at them on quality livestock and corals.

Oh and my favorites are Danios and Neon tetras. I like small fish.

Favorite Non tank buster fish??? So many to choose from...I really like
Cardinal Tetras,
Corydora Sp.,
Apistos Sp.,
Ramirezi
Dicrossus Sp.,
All are small and fun to watch.

Almost forgot my favorite small pleco the Bristlenose pleco, can get up to 5-6 inches but usually stay smaller. They are great at cleaning up algae.

The most popular is probably the common Goldfish... though it's not a tropical, so maybe shouldn't be included.

Personally, I like small schooling fish... Neon Tetras, Tiger Barbs, Danios (I like the GlowFish variety for the color.)

Neon tetra/cardinal tetras are my favs for life. But I definitely love discus!! I'm obsessed!
