so I finally bought a spotted pim, i've absoulutley been wanting one for years!  He's in a 55 with 5 upside downs, and 2 gold gouramis and a handfull of platies 10 or so.   I think he's stunning, I would've bought more, but I hate to spend 6. on a fish and see it die.  So if he doesn't fare well I'll try again.  He is active, looks good and seems well settled in already.  Not bothering anyone but I think if he wanted he could eat a platy....we'll see.  They still haven't had babies Undecided But when they do I'm sure he'll enjoy a good snack.    I lost a few a month ago, so i've waited awhile before restocking, today I added a few more with him.
Would you recommend more than one?  I'd really like  him to be the focus of the tank.  It's still bare looking as I'm trying to locate some affordable driftwood, I had a piece but i found it and it turned out to be toxic I think, I cured it and boiled it but fish kept mysteriously dying in a cycled tank.

He stomach is quite large.  Do they overeat?  doesn't look like dropsy or anything...Would you provide a tankmate or let him be boss? any infor or suggestions welcome?  Salt okay?

Pictus cats are carnivores. Be careful when choosing their tankmates.

I'm afraid you will slowly see your platies disappearing.

what would be the best school to go in the tank>?

I traded in the upside down cats and now have three pictus, so far all doing well. Get along most of the time however there is some body thrashing/sqaubling here and there. Doesn't look serious.  I now have no other competing bottom feeders, the question is is should I keep the platies, I am hoping to see some offspring which will keep the pictus cats busy- so mabybe the adults won't get eaten.  I will have some recent tank pics, and inhabitants soon.  Haven't really gotten tank how I want it since aquiring in, been through lots of changes.

Adult platies are probably safe until the pictus cats near full adult size, but then all bets are off. Make sure you do a regular fasting, pictus will overeat, a weekly one day fast seems to help, in my experience. They are pretty cool, aren't they?

Bichers are highly addictive. Prehistoric looking, full of attitude, what's not to love?
