The tank was just released so it will take a bit before we receive any opinions or reviews about it. It seems like a decent little tank with a very good quality HOB filter included. However the lighting that comes with the kit is halogen which wouldn't sustain live plants or coral.

It would make a nice Betta tank though in my opinion.

I wonder if I started growing some plants in the tank first before adding water. This would make it easier to landscape and maybe help with the cycle a bit.

Dang, that is neat looking.  At only 6 gallons, though it looks a bit limited, especially for the price.  I kind of wonder about cleaning it, too, with that small'ish opening and such.

Still, I almost want one now.

Not sure what you're wanting to try here. Most terrestrial plants don't grow well under water if at all, and most aquatic plants won't grow unless submerged.
As for the cycle, no, it won't help. Plants will use the end stage product of the nitrogen cycle, NitrAte, but they won't help start it unless there is an incidental colony growing on it.
