I 've found in looking at Betta's I can find male Betta's pretty easy but I kinda had my heart set on a Half Moon but I'm finding they are not so easy to find and I dont wanna buy a fish online.
I live in Illinois anyone have any idea on local Betta hunting?

You are looking for a half moon female?

I got my halfmoon male at Petco.

Call around fish stores in your area?
I can't think of any breeders off the top of my head in Illinois.  shrug

I have a male halfmoon betta, whom I ordered online from petco.com. Of course, I couldn't choose the color or the specimen, so if you really want to do that, maybe you could go check out some Petco stores? If they offer them online, they probably also offer them in the stores.

I don't have a car, so it was easier for me to just order. I tried calling a couple fish stores in my area (Evanston) that I could have visited in person, but none of them had halfmoon bettas, so I understand your frustration. Sorry I can't be more help!  Undecided

The Petco near me often has halfmoon bettas in stock.  What they get in any given shipment is apparently pretty random.  I've spent a lot of time talking to a very helpful person there and, according to him, it's really kind of a crap shoot.  Halfmoons and crowntails tend to sell within a day or two of them coming in, too.

I'm in Virginia, not Illinois, so I don't know if it's the same up in your area.  I'd assume that Petco stores all get their bettas from the same source, though.
