I have a ten gallon tank that I am using for feeder fish only.  I was running a undergravel filter and a hang on back filter. The hang on back filter is dead.  So my question is; Would it be best to buy anther hob filter, or could I just hook up a powerhead to the undergravel filter? The local store has powerheads on sale which is just a lil bit cheaper than the hob.  And for general, when using an undergravel with a powerhead, is it necessary to run 2 for each up lift tube or would one suffice?  I know this is beginner stuff, but I'm a noob and I need the help lol

Feeder fish aren't healthy, even for oscars. So we don't use a set up like that.

wow, that wasnt helpful at all.

OP:
there are a few ways to look at this. with feeders youre looking at a higher bio-load, so your best bet is to get another HOB. however, as youre just using them as food, you may not want to invest that much money into a filter.

if you want to keep to a cost effective plan, you can just keep the UGF (which IME is just about the wort possible form of filtration), and do a partial water change every few days to keep the water clean.

if you are willing to spend the money on a filter, look for an AquaClear20 HOB.
