Here's something I hadn't thought about....

You may have a male and a female fish in there....  take a close look at the orange one, does it develop white "bumps" around their face?

This shows a good picture of that....

Anyway, breeding behavior includes chasing, crowding the other fish to get her to release her eggs, etc. 

I'm not sure this is even a possiblilty, but you mentioned that the orange one is often chasing or picking on the other one.

I've tried for years to figure out what sex these fish are--no white bumps around face, but there are some along the front edge of the long fin that runs down its back--not sickness white bumps, but decorative looking.  The gold colored fish also has a slightly protruding anal opening, and is significantly larger than the white fish, though both are good sized fish, the size of my hand.  Makes me think the more aggressive fish is actually a female, though I don't know if that makes the white one a henpecked husband or what.

It's not like constant chasing or anything.  It's worst when they are eating.
