I have no idea how many there are! I just know I counted to 67 before I lost count. They never stop moving, very active little guys--makes them hard to count. I originally guessed 100, but now I think there's at least 150, if not 200 or more little loaches. And, like loaches, they eat like hogs. At this point it looks like all of them will survive, too. They're still tiny, but in a month or so I'll get to start looking for homes for them all! Oh boy...

Wow! You might consider getting a big rubbermaid or like container to keep them in to grow out.

As Mols was saying, any good sized container like a sterlite or rubbermaid storage bin will do in a pinch. It doesn't have to be pretty, just water tight and ready for growing out the fry. The bigger the container, the faster they'll grow and the less overcrowding there'll be for the hungry little guys.

If you think there are 150 there are probably 500. Counting fry like that can be very deceiving. Congratulations on the spawning, you should definitely do a full blown article.

Little guys are doing very well, can see all their fins and their loach "whiskers" are starting to develop. They're eating like hogs, mainly Golden Pearls. It's really quite funny--they all have orange guts from the food. Much bigger now, 6-7mm in length--still too small to photograph well!

There's a bit of an issue with attrition--some of the fry are dying. I assume this is fairly normal, due to survival of the fittest and all. The vast majority are healthy and active, so it's not an illness that could wipe them out or anything.

Just a quick update!

A small water change might help, have you tested the water since you have had some die?  IMO, I would see if you could get them into a larger container for grow out such as the Rubbermaid or sterlite that was mentioned earlier. They will grow much faster and the water will not get as polluted as quickly.  I'm glad that they are doing so well! Smiley

They're currently in a 20-gallon tank, and we're considering getting another 20-gallon so we can split the fry up. The biggest issue is space! Furthermore, the kitten thinks that any container of water is hers to drink and play in--I'd be afraid of what would happen if she got into a Rubbermaid container holding the babies. They're now getting big enough that I can go with a normal filter instead of a sponge filter, so it shouldn't be too hard to set up an additional tank.

Did a tank cleaning today, and while I was in there I took some pictures. These are mostly the first spawning, although there is a smaller one that's from the second spawning. The bigger ones are 13 days old, while the smaller one is 11 days old. I know the pictures are absolute crap, but if you look closely you can see fins, and the ruler gives you an idea of their size.
