I did have gravel but as I was reading and people were having problems with goldfish getting rocks stuck into their mouths I thought that it would be safer. I was also reading that they say that sand could get into the gills of the fish so I did not want to take any chances that why i do not have any. I do have a blue back ground that I might put back on. Thanks for your input I like peoples input it give me ideas. thanks Mike

yeah, I have heard that about sand, but, I myself never had any problems with it, what about lagrer river stones, not HUGE ones, but not small gravel, with goldies, my rock theory is: nothing small enough to go in the mouth, and nothing that creates gaps big enough to stick there head in... but a larger gravel should do fine, and itll give more area for your beneficial bacteria to grow, youll need all of that you can get with having goldies... beautiful fish, wonderful personalities... but as dirty as a possum lol (Id love to see the tank with the background up)

I wanted to see the vid, its removed it seems.

I am scared now reading about your comment of soft sand. i added TONS of gravel which has small soft golden gravel to my gold fish tank. Please check my vid and please any other expert can comment is added gravel like this very bad idea.
