is there any breeding season for livebearer? my females are always pregnant. but I've been separating the males for more than a month. but they're still seem pregnant, maybe 2 more drops if they won't die, they will be clean. i was excited for fry before but not anymore. and feel sorry for the females to be always pregnant and dropping fry each month or so, esp after my females died after few droppings ( platy and guppy). so far my black molly females are tough, none had died even after multiply drops.

but the problem is now, 3 of my male mollies are dead. just wonder if male fish can be live happily among males. i noticed my male mollies are chasing each other(gay) and my guppy males are chasing everyone... inc my female platy/swordtail.

i doubt your fish are gay... probably just territorial disputes, some male mollys tend to be a little more aggressive when theyre not in the presence of females, and some are just mean for no real reason, its all personality

hehe.... yeah, it's just too bad have to keep them separately, but otherwise the females always be pregnant. don't need more fry and don't want more fry. and feel bad for those females always dropping every now and then, even hardly any survivor now in main tank but its still shorten their life and could get prolapse soon too and die:(

Breeding season is all the time, they are consent breeders as you have found out. Your Female Mollies may not be done dropping fry yet. even though you have removed all the males. In live bears, a single insemination can fertilize several successive broods! In other words once a female has been mated, she kind of stores the sperm for sometime, using it to fertilize eggs over a period of months! So females can continue to have fry in the absence of a male.

Male guppies will chase any female, they do not care if a platy, guppy, or other species. I have had one male guppy "dance" for my Black Ghost Knife, imagine that.

NicW hit the head of the nail with the territorial issues.

Yeah, guppy males are very active... now I have collection of 11 male guppies in 20 g tank and like usual they are still chasing each other:) None of them are exactly the same but once I have 3 brothers guppy that are the same, 99% but I sold them 2, 1 left. Kind of want only 1 each Smiley
I like guppies, they are colorful yet small and easy to care...
