The java fern you are looking for goes under the name "narrow leaf", its leaf is not tall (don't go for the needle leaf variety that has longer leaves though narrow). Anubias nana, anubias micro, anubias gold all are small versions of the traditional anubias that you could use. You could try tying ricca to drift wood but if you use moss it will hide the driftwood when it starts growing and you will lose the beauty of the wood and its shape.

So, I stumbled across pics of my friends peacock gudgeons... and I was wondering... could I fit some in my 55? I was thinking maybe 3 pairs? with either 25 neons, or about 20 cardinals... and a metric butt ton of RCS and like possibly 2 ottos or something...

*edit*
also, Essabee...
I was looking on AB actualy, I think it was eBay...
anyway, I found some java fern called Phillipine Java fern... it supposed to be more bushy than tall, is that what your referring to and your using different names? or?...

Microsorum pteropus "Phillipine" is a beautiful plant suitable for large tanks as it has long leaves. The leaves of this variety are uneven and appears like they have been roughly hammered into shape.

I don't think it would suit the purpose you are looking at.

If you got peacock gudgeons, you might lose some RCS but if your RCS thrives in your 55 and breeds at a rate faster than they are eaten it should not be a problem.

thats what I was thinking about the RCS....
Thanks Essabee... the only issue is that whenever i find a listing for "narrow leaf" its that freakishly long java fern (needle leaf) not the short bushy kind Im looking for...
so far Im thinking the only plants are the riccia for the floor, java fern and anubias for the driftwood, crypts and hair grass for behind the driftwood in the corner, I might be able to sneak some flourite back there.... we'll see lol

and fauna:
the 25 neons or 20 cardinals and RCS.... peacocks -maybe- we'll see
