I just purchased some freshwater clams..no instructions  no nothing  so now what?/ Can anyone tell me how i can tell what kind of clams they are?? i got them online from florida..I did read that some breed with parasites that attach to the fish gills  Does this kill the fish?? I have them in a 10 gal tank at the moment  8 of them  but plan on putting them into my 55 gal as soon as i know something about themm.any in put will help..thank you

Well, you would be better off posting this in the freshwater forum, or on one of the invert boards. Personally, I have no experience with freshwater clams, but I believe they can die quickly without an adequate source of food (the correct kind of food, too). Someone else should be more helpful than me.

I know you don't have to worry about the babies being parasites. That's mussels you're thinking of. I don't know much else about them but that they like to be buried slightly, and they are filter feeders. Unless you have too many of them, they'll probably be fine just eating the gunk out of your water and keeping it cleaner.
