They make a 67G (55 plus 4 inches height) that I'd like to have for the living room.  I'm not too afraid of building my own tank but I haven't consulted any of the local glass companies about cutting panes for me.  I WANT Starphire on the front and sides and I would prefer someone else drill the holes in the bottom for me.  Does anyone have any experience with glasscages.com?  Does anyone know how hard it might be to find LIG glass at a local shop?

I haven't had personal experience with them, but I have known a couple people that got 300's from them that were very pleased.

Edit: If you do decide to build it yourself, why not have your glass supplier drill the glass? I'd think they'd be the most likely to do so.

Well, I think I'm going to order the 67 from them.  They said that the bottom pane isn't tempered so I'll just drill it myself.  I'm thinking about asking them if they can put an acrylic bottom panel in it instead.  I would feel a lot more comfortable that way.  I don't know if it's a conventional idea even.

Have you ever drilled glass? It's a PITA, and a bit of a crapshoot, especially if you've never done it. It gets a little easier each time you do it, but it's never a sure thing. If I was spending that kind of money to begin with, I'd have them do it.
As for an acrylic panel, I've not seen glass and acrylic mixed. I have no clue whether it's a feasible option even.

That's good advice.  I want to do some testing on worthless tanks before I decided where exactly I want the holes.

Check the free section of Craigslist, they often have free windows/glass. At least around here they do. Awesome for practice glass drilling. They may even supply the glass to fix some of those "worthless" tanks. Since you're running a rescue, is any tank really worthless?
