Need more fish and a bigger tank!

shrug So I went ahead and added two Dwarf Puffers to my 10 gallon tank about one week ago. The tank allready had two small Guppies and 6 ghost shrimp. How long does it take them to get over being shy and come out for feedings. So far I have tried microcrabs, crushed shrimp pellets, frozen brine shrimp, and freeze dried blood worms. At least while I am watching they never want to eat?

The only food in there in the list that they would even be remotely interested in would be the frozen brine shrimp. Try frozen bloodworms and live pond snails. It's always a good idea to do research on a species before you get it.

I have also tried the blood worms and freeze dried plankton which was recomended by the LFS. The larger of the two has started to swim around and pick at some food as it sinks like a scared child but then darts away staying at the bottom half of the tank and hides whenever someone is near. The smaller one will not come out of the plant leaves at all. Neither of them will come to the surface for food and once the food hits the substrate they ignore and then the ghost shrimp get to it first.

I read about the pond snails but the LFS did have any I could buy, only those large snails. Now that spring is here I could try to go to a pond and look for some but I have read a lot of opinons on parasite dangers in doing this. There is a company I know of about 45 minutes away that specializes in pond setups perhapse I could get some pond snails from them.

Is it the frozen blood worms or the freeze dried ones you tried???  BIG difference.  They will only eat the frozen ones.  And yes, they love pond snails.  Snails will quite often hitch a ride on live plants, you could look for a store that has those.  I have snails in a different tank from my DP's, I just pick them out once a week and feed them these for a treat.

For now until they are more comfortable in their environment I would put the food in and leave...  give them a chance to eat without anyone around so they don't get weak and sick.  You're thawing the frozen food first right?

Something else...  is there another fish that might be picking on them?  Can you spot them out and about from a distance when you are not near the tank?

I have tons of pond snails I'd be happy to share with you if someone could tell me the best way to ship them and if you can pay for shipping.

I could use some too, GroupieKilla4eva. Spiny Norman has depleted my infestation to zero and I haven't seen him eat anything else.

Cholly, do you know how I can safely ship them so they'll make it you okay? Let me know because I'll gladly send them over to you for just the cost of shipping. I will set traps in all my tanks and get as many as I can over to you. I have a 5 gallon bucket that I've been dumping them into whenever I see them and it's full. They are mostly ramshorns (common pond snails lol).

Ack. Thought of something that may not allow it anyway, regs on snails. Maybe Mollielover knows, she's shipped snails before. I'll PM her later, wife's hollering for me now.
