It's been a long time since I was last on here.  I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas for more plants for 55 hex amazon theme tank.  right now I have a couple of swords, a few dwarf swords, and some dwarf sag.  Anybody have any ideas for some more variety.  also, if you want to help  me re-stock.  I recently lost a few fish.  I'm not sure why it happened, but the tank is back under control.  Right now, I have 2 angels, 5 bloodfin tetras, 5 phantom tetras and a rubber nose pleco.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have not said anything about your lights, so I take it as low light tank.

Some cryptocoryne have a beautiful brown to brownish-mauve colours and are easy to grow in low lights. You could find both broad and narrow leafed crypts to match or contrast with the amazon sword. Dwarf hair grass will also be a possibility for the foreground.

As for fishes, I don't see any occupying the surface niche in your aquarium. A small school of leopard/zebra/albino danios will fit in perfectly at the top. You could also think about a small school of harlequin rasboras for the mid-section.

I did forget to mention lighting.  It is 3 watts/gal.  I have 3 X 55 watt pc 5400K lights on the tank

I also fertilize with Flourish and Nutrafin Plant Grow Sticks placed below the plants' root bases

Keeping with the Amazon theme, you could try some Myriophyllum species for the background.

BTW what phantoms do you have, black or red?

interesting you ask that.  when i bought them, they all looked black, but some of them must have been stressed then because 1/2 of them are black and the other half are red.  thanks for the ideas on the plants.  i'll have to look into those.  I almost picked up a pair of rams yesterday at my lfs.  I might go back today or over the weekend.
