I don't know what it is but it's getting old  I lived in PA for about 3 years and my LFS was That Fish Place and the instore prices are the same or lower than the mail order or online prices so I got spoiled. I started off in the hobby in Washington state and they are high compared to east coast prices but not as bad as here. I'll put it this way one of the LFS's  manager buys at retail from That Fish Place on filters and marks them up from there cause the wholesale distributors here are so over priced.

Hey stop hating on our ridiculously overpriced prices. 5 bucks for a guppy isn't THAT bad... Tongue
but this would be cool to try sometime. I hate lifting 5 gallon buckets. and I also hate paying large quantity's of money for something that I could DIY. and I enjoy diy-ing. (it keeps me of the streets, lol)  Roll Eyes

And how much water pressure do you have?  I need to turn the hot and cold water on all the way to get good suction.
Insightful. How did you know??

I realized that I needed lots of water going through it so it was up all the way in my initial tests. But now that you mention it, this morning I was trying to get a shower and the water pressure was pitiful. The whole house carbon filter was clogged, I had to go down and turn it off to get decent pressure. I hadn't put two and two together until I read this. I bet that was a big part of my problem! I'll have to try it again.

$4.86 waterbed kit
$10 hose
$5 fitting for hose
gravel vac...already have it
Total cost: under $20
Total cost to buy (online with shipping, my only option cause they don't sell them here): around $60

So there you go. I'll save myself $40.

Guppies here are $5. At Walmart.

I'm in Seattle, lol, I thought you were referring to Washington's overly ridiculous prices. (wouldn't b the first time I mis-read) but I could see where Colorado would be pricey.

And 20 bucks, sweeeet.  Smiley
