Lucky...... Monty never did build another nest before he left. He spawned and then ate the eggs, then nothing again. Undecided

We have fry!!!
They hatched some time last night or early this morning.  Merlin is being a great daddy and keeping them up in what is now a HUGE bubble nest.

Here is a pic of Merlin tending his nest last night, before they hatched.  The nest is about 5 times bigger now, covers the whole leaf and then some!!

Well, evening falls on day on of babys and they are still alive, he is still putting them into the nest and being a great daddy!  Bubble nest is HUGE!
How long till they are free swimming?  Two days?  How long before I can turn the sponge filter back on?  I turned it off yesterday so it wouldn't suck in any of the babies once they hatched.  It is on the other side of the divider right now, would it be better to leave the divider in until they are bigger or go ahead and take it out once they are free swimming?
Thanks,
Katharine

Well I just checked the tank again and it looks like all my fry are gone.  shrug
I wonder if Merlin got tired of putting them back up in the nest?  He looks tired but he keeps going back to the nest and nosing around.  How long should I wait to see if they are really gone?
Thanks,
Katharine

wait a while, it's sometimes hard to see them if he spit them way up high in the nest, or if some of them have scattered.

Well, he has let most of the nest pop and isn't guarding it anymore.....   I will leave him a couple more days and see what happens.  Next time I think I am going to try my new HM male and see how he does.
