Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada ? ( USA )

A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Ca-na-da is that big country to your North...oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Calgary. Come naked.

Baku & Shoki

WWW
« Reply #441 on: October 25, 2008, 12:01:39 AM »

I have those little red & white fishing floats (no hooks) in each tank to see if my boys would play with them.
I never see them playing but the floats are always in a different place.
Yesterday I was letting Shoki & Baku have a look-see at each other so they could do the manly fishy battle dance. Shoki's float was against that side of his tank so I reached in to push it out of his way.
The little B******D bit me & then really attached the float in a flashing blue of Betta fury.
He really attacked it & sent is spinning away & then went back to dancing for Baku.
It was quite a sight. Glad he's small!

Baku & Shoki

WWW
« Reply #442 on: November 26, 2008, 11:45:32 AM »

Shoki & his little red, white fishing bobber. Yesterday he started this new thing:
After his morning & later morning battle dance with Baku & then Sumo, after the "curtain" was lowered, Shoki began this full battle display, fins fully spread, frill all flared with the fishing bobber. He crowded the bobber against the side of the tank & then began to chase it around the tank, nipping & biting it, really attacking it.
This happened several times through out the day. That silly bobber has been in his tank for 3-4 weeks now. Today, he attacked it for a bit & then just floated near it, like he's waiting for it to make a move.
I haven't been in my studio much today with getting ready to T'day dinner tomorrow so I don't know how busy he's been today with his toy.
  At least he keeps busy.

That is so funny roseduke. At least they are having fun. lol

My HM boy is such a tail biter. He has totally shredded his fins =(

I have a 20 gallon tank that now houses 3 or 4 very lucky oto fish. The little butts outlived most of the bettas, the shrimp and the guppies. Tongue I am thinking of A) moving them to the 12 gallon and taking down the 20 gallon. B) leaving them and getting guppies so my mom is happy, or C) getting some more girls and having a second sorority! Which is the best option?

Baku & Shoki

I can't answer what your best option is being that I have Bettas & don't want any other fish.
I had really beautiful guppies ( my second fish after carnival goldfish-given to me by a neighbor) when I was a kid. Guppies are the fish that keep on giving-making more guppies-pretty easy to keep.
After a bout of fin rot, Baku kept chewing his tail when it would get to be a certain length. But Shoki (who's tank was in the middle of the 3) would dance with Baku but was starting to ignore Sumo in favor of his float (yeah, he's still at it with the float).
So I put Baku in the middle & now he's so busy patroling with Sumo to the left & Shoki on the right (& he doesn't even see them all the time) that his tail is finally growing out. So maybe he was bored.
But the real reason for my post- Shoki bit me... hard on the arm the other day-left me with a fish hicky & a scratch (only one skin cell layer deep) about 1/4 inch long, but it really hurt & surprised me.  Little s*=+*%@ censored#*!+! t! I was pulling the ornaments out of his tank to clean them & change him to a clean tank.  He bit me-little dirtball!
I never completely remove the cover on his tank-every morning at feeding Shoki leaps up out of the water-Attack fish! My husband calls Shoki my "junkyard dog".

Haha everyone's bettas seem to be biting them lately. I will have to watch out.

Maybe I should switch the spot I keep Vittorio in. Thanks!

I re-did my 20 gallon so option 1 is out, lol. I really want a sorority because guppies bore me to death. Tongue I think I will do that...but I will look into it more. =)

My betta is goofy.  Today I had his vase on my table (working on getting him more commodius accomodations) and all of a sudden he started swimming around flaring like mad.  I couldn't figure out what he saw.... then I noticed I had put down my portable phone next to his vase.  The silly little bit was flaring at the ANTENNA of my portable phone ROFLMAO  rollfloor2  (yes, I tested the theory first.  moved phone, he stopped. put phone back, he started flaring again)

<3 Betta-Babies

« Reply #447 on: July 08, 2009, 08:46:00 AM »

About 3 years ago my first betta was flushed by my mom, because she though his tank smelled bad...... >___<;;;;;
R.I.P. Nuit

I moved out, and live on my own, so i got me some more betta-babies.
Delphine was the first. She's my dominant female right now,  she has a 5 gallon all to herself.
She's predominantly blue, with a black face and purple on the inner sides of her fins.

Whenever i walk by her tank she zooms to the front as if im going to feed her. When i first got her it was hard to get her eating so i tried getting her to recognize my finger on the top of the water. Once she nipped it to see what it was i put a pellet at the end. A few days later she tried to eat my finger AND the pellet. After she knew what the hand movement and the finger meant all i had to do was drop the pellet in. Sometimes she'll still try to jump out of the water to get my finger. LOL

I plan to transfer Delphine over to my ten gallon so that i can move Selena in there with her too. THAT WAY they wont have a huge fight over the territory that Delphine is already in and kill each other, although thats still a possibility. I plan on getting another female for the ten gallon that way they can have a heirarchy.... and tons of plants for them to hide in..... I swear if one of them dies im going into depression mode. I just hope that if something does happen i can rescue them in time. TT^TT i love my girls too much.

Selena is my newest female betta. She is white with a few random deep-blue scales on her body, and her fins are gradient from light to dark blue... I didn't notice until i turned the light off that she has a translucent sheen of tourqouise on her body and pink spots where her gills are. She's a shy girl, but she'll acclimate to her territory soon. I've had her for a few days and shes already getting more comfortable and FINALLY EATING REGULARLY.  yes!

Last but not least is Hannibal. My ONLY male. He is going to have his own 5 gallon soon. I have him in a temporary 2 gallon bowl. I named him Hannibal because when i set him by Delphine's tank so i could clear a space for his bowl he fluffed at her and subsequently tried to go through the glass to get her. Delphine just looked at him curiously then swam around her tank. Next when i put him on the place i cleared for him, i went to feed him. He fluffed at my hand and jumped at me (then realized there was food). Lastly when i moved Selena to her place Hannibal saw her and fluffed again. He did all this fluffing without getting those stress lines most bettas get. Hannibal's full of testosterone apparently, but i love him. <3

Thus my gigantic post is at an end. ^_^

I inherited a new double-tail female and was white and red (I thought she looked like a peppermint stick). After speaking with the owner of the fish store I get my supplies at, I decided to try a sorority tank. I had just purchased a three gallon Aquaview 360 for the one fish I kept at work and it seemed a bit big for Cappy.

Needless to say, it didn't work. Cappy has never really shown any personality other than to hide a lot, so I was very surprised when she suddenly tails and attacks the new Tango. Tango didn't exactly let Cappy push her around though and gave as good as she got. This lasted about 12 hours before I pulled Tango out and took her home. Her smaller 2 gallon tank is next to Speed's now and though she continues to show off her utter cuteness, Speed ignores her.

I won't be trying another sorority tank with Cap. Since Tango left, she's been more aggressive, taking to dive-bombing in her tank to indicate she's hungry and flaring at everyone that walks by. Tango has returned to her cute ways of blowing bubbles directly at the person sitting next to her, flaring at the big red fish that ignores her and just generally being a fish I'm happy I adopted.

Hmmm well first of 2 bettas is not a sorority - it's a pair and pairs never work out.  Plus 3 gallons wasn't enough room in any event.
