thats how i feed peas to my bettas. on the subject of salt though on the containers i have and other places i've seen it recommended one tsp per five gallons. but others adjust to suit their needs though.

i've seen 1 tablespoon per 5 gal (i believe that's what it says on the carton of doc wellfish aquarium salt), but i've always done 1 teaspoon/gallon because that's what the betta powers-that-be here at petfish told me to use when i was a newbie. old habits die hard i guess ;)

Oi. 10 teaspoons?  :o

Looks like I'm gonna have to go buy myself some more aquarium salt. I only have a little jar (it maybe has 6-8 teaspoons in it) that I've never used. Maybe what I'll try first is the 2 tablespoon method. They seem to be doing fine withoutthe salt, but if it's good at preventing infections, then why not give it a shot, 'eh? :)

On another note... my boy Nanners at work was taught that to get his food, he has to jump out of the water and grab it off my pinky finger (they are cleaned before!). I get my pink just a tad wet, then I put a pellet on there, and he litteraly leaps out of the water and chomps it off my finger. He also likes to playfully nibble at my pinky when I dip it in the water. He likes to play "catch the finger" too, and I swear that he's got some dog in him! If I just put my finger in and hold it there, he'll lovingly come over to it and stroke himself against it like I'm petting him. It's the sweetest thing I've ever seen! He's such a cutie!

You could always buy just regular rock salt, it might be a bit cheaper than "aquarium salt"....but yea...salt = good.

cool to see nanners having fun...

hope you don't clean your pinky with soap though =X...

i'm gonna have to try the pinky thing...

yes, i know that's what it says on the carton (i even said as much), but general consensus in a lot of places is 1 teaspoon/gallon for bettas, so that's what i use.  bettas are pretty tolerant of salt; some species are not.  the directions on the carton are general-usage.  just like you dont necessarily follow the directions on the back of a medication box to a tee when youre dealing with bettas, you might not necessarily follow these either :)  the difference isnt all that great anyway, you're talking 3/5 teaspoon per gallon versus 1 teaspoon per gallon

No worries bettatrick - I never NEVER clean anything with soap when it comes to my babies. :)

You should give the pinky trick a try. It's great to watch and fun for your betta too!
