I just wanted to post this short notice that petfish is not responsible for losses incurred thru the use of this forum. We will of course do anything reasonable to make it a fair, honest and trustworthy tool.
So far there haven't been very many complaints, so everything must be going smoothly.

Use common sense, make sure that you know the person well enough to trust them for the deal you make, do your best to uphold your side of the deal and everything should go well.

I personally strongly advise against sending or accepting cash thru the mail, this is one sure way to spoil a good trade. Too many things can happen.

Also.. If you're taking payment for an item, make sure you get the payment and have it in your hands BEFORE you ship. Do NOT ship because some one claims they sent payment, despite the fact you've never gotten anything. Checks are good, you can always prove you did indeed send money.

How about trades? Any thoughts regarding a safety fallback on those?

I feel I should add, though I don't know how to solve this lil dilemna, that some checks take days to clear.  I've gotten one notice of a check with insufficient fund 37 days after I cashed the check.

I think most people on markets like ebay and such wait 2 weeks before sending the item out so that they know the check has cleared.

I sell on Aquabid and eBay, and here is what I do.

I accept well concealed cash (this is at the senders risk), all money orders and paypal.  I do not accept checks, have been burned one too many times.

When dealing with trades unless I know the person I always get delivery confirmation and I don't ship unless I get an email from that person that says i plan to ship your package on such and such date.

I think when dealing with trades the best bet is to know the person or at least know they have a good rep.

This is just my .02 cents, and there are definitely some people on this site that if they said ok lets trade, I would have no problem packaging up whatever it is they wanted to trade and it would be shipped the same day.

Definitly some worthy advice, thanks guys.

I believe most of the vendors on Ebay say it's 10 days...

Do we have a thread to report bad stuff or should we report that to a mod?

Naturally, try to work it out with the seller. Failing that, contact a mod and we will see what can be done.

A mod may delete this post (I encourage it) after it is read by one or by Clint himself:

www.paintball-forum.com has a similar trading section. They also have a separate section for rating sellers and leaving feedback. This would be invaluable and could be done using sub-board style.

Just a suggestion I've had for a while but never an example of,

Not a bad idea. I'll forward it to Clint. Thanks Matt!

you could find a go-between someone the 2 people both trust (mabey wild-tiger it was his idea)  and the one person sends him/her the fish and the other sends the money and when the person they both trust gets the stuff they forward it to both people. just an idea.
