Aquarium Measurements
Tank Sizes
To find the real capacity of your tank:
Multiply the length x the width x the depth in inches, then divide by 231
And that will give you the the capacity in gallons.
An Example:
- 19 1/2" long x 10" wide x 12" tall = 2340, 2340 divided by 231 = 10.13 gallons
That's about the standard size of a 10 gallon tank.
To find the capacity of a round tank:
Diameter x Diameter, x depth, x .0034 = Gallons Capacity
An Example:
- Diameter 20" x Diameter 20" = 400, 400 x 20" deep = 8000, 8000 x .0034 = 27.2 gallons
Inches VS Centimeters
To convert inches to centimeters simply multiply inches times 2.5

pH

Normal Aquarium conditions would seldom be found outside the green area.
Acidic water loving species such as Discus and South American Cichlids would be happy with a pH of 5.5 to 7.
Alkaline species such as Rift Lake Cichlids would be happy with a pH of 7.5 to 8.5
Most other Aqaurium fish would prefer water that is close to neutral.
dH or degrees of Hardness
0° - 4° = Very Soft
5° - 8° = Soft
9° - 12° = Medium
13° - 19° = Hard
20° & up = Very Hard
Fish that prefer Soft water usually prefer Acidic water.
And Fish that prefer Hard water also prefer Alkaline water.
But most fish will do well around Neutral pH and Medium Hardness.
