The American Flag Fish

Species/genus:   Jordanella floridae
 
Origin:   Florida down the East and Gulf Coast to Yucatan
 
Temp:  68-77°F (20-25°C)
 
pH:   around neutral
dH:   medium, not critical
 
Temperament:   Usually peaceful, but the male will guard eggs and fry with force.
 
Adult Size:   2½ in (6.5cm)
 
Minimum Tank Size:   5 gallon
 
Feeding:   Omnivorous, needs vegatble flakes or algae.
 
Breeding:     A Killifish thats spawns like a Cichlid. The male will dig a depression in the sand where he will guard the eggs for thier 7 day incubation. The fry are usually safe with their parents.
 
Comments:
The Flag Fish can be kept much like the common livebearers, Platies, Swordtails and Mollies. It doesn't mind higher pH or even a little salt in the water. They make excellent fish for algae clean up.
